Institute of Research, Innovations and Development (IRID) was in 2015 carved out of the school of Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation (SGSRI) to enable the Institute concentrate on Research, Innovation, Publications and Development in and outside the University with only one Centre under its outfit known as Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR). 

With the enactment of Technical University Act 922 (2016), Management deemed it fit to broaden the horizon of the Institute by bringing four (4) additional Centers under it. Namely; Centre for Competency Based Learning and Development (CCBLD), Centre for Research, Development and Technology Incubation (CRDTI), Centre for Business Development and Consultancy Services (CBDCS), Centre for Technology Transfer and Skills Development (CTTSD).
