In May 2011, the academic board of the then Kumasi Polytechnic approved the establishment of the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation – SGSRI with the then Dr. Osei Wusu Achaw as our pioneer Director.
SGSRI had two centers then: Center for Social Science Research headed by Mr. Emmanuel Sefa Owusu and supported by Edmund Ayesu, Dr. John Agyei, Daniel Kombat, Micheal Asamoah Boahene, Raymond Akantege, Nana Akwasi Osei Bonsu and Smart Asomaning Sarpong as well as Center for Natural Science Research headed by Afua Afrah Mantey and supported by Bismarck Quacoo Parker, Ishmeal Ayim, Kingsley Appiah, and Kofi Addo Koranteng.
We were accommodated at the B-Block to floor immediately after the then typing pool.
The Institute of Research, Innovation and Development (IRID) was carved out of the School of Graduate Students, Research and Innovation (SGSRI) in 2015 to enable us concentrate on Research, Innovation, and serve as Development linkage between the university and relevant agencies outside of the University.
