Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) is proud to announce its recent success in securing a grant of over GHC 2 million from the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF)/Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET). This groundbreaking achievement stems from the visionary project titled KsTU Incorporating Garbage Sorting into the Internship Programme at MSMEs in Kumasi, Ghana. In August 2023, the project with the reference number GSDF/C1/00183/W3 was submitted. It is a groundbreaking plan to include waste management practices in the internships of students working in micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) all over Kumasi. By embedding garbage sorting into vocational training, KsTU is not only equipping students with industry-relevant skills but also promoting eco-friendly practices in local businesses.
The application process for the grant was rigorous, involving multiple stages, including the initial concept note selection and full proposal approval. The approval of the full proposal underscores the innovative and impactful nature of this project, which aligns with national and global efforts to address environmental sustainability and skills development. Speaking on this achievement, the then Head of the Centre for Technology Transfer and Skills Development (CTTSD) and project lead, Dr. Michael Yeboah, and Professor Smart Sarpong and Professor Alfred Owusu. We expressed our gratitude. “This grant is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team at IRID.
